Deena Kotlewski MA, LCPC, NBCC

Licensed Child, Adolescent & Family Psychotherapist

Nationally Board Certified Counselor

Certified Clinical Supervisor

About me:

For over 25 years I have been working as a private therapist, 16 of which included working for Montgomery County Public Schools, helping children, adolescents, and families improve their skills to navigate life's challenges, transitions, and daily stressors. My practice focuses on families going through separation or divorce, children and adolescents struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and relational struggles. I frequently support teens in the college application process, work on clear steps for new independence, support the emotional ups and downs of a complex and highly nerve wracking time. By acknowledging the person’s developmental stage we can work on specific solutions during challenging times. One of my passions is helping children and adolescents find real-world solutions to the complicated issues they face at home and at school. The people I work with are often feeling depressed, sad, and anxious, dealing with relationship concerns and/or not functioning well at school or work.  We examine physical, mental and emotional stages of development. We create treatment goals and together work in a focused, goal oriented, shared approach to solve the dissonance in your life. I easy to get in touch with, people often text or connect during off hours, I am available for you.

Additionally, I specialize in assisting children and adolescents struggling with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). People with ADHD are often disorganized or have difficulty expressing themselves concisely.  Collaboratively, we identify strategies to help improve academic performance, develop and increase self-esteem, coping abilities, individual resiliency, and communication. My philosophy is that people can and will heal if they are engaged in the counseling process.

I also offer clinical supervision to LGPC's working hard to become licensed. As your clinical supervisor I will direct, guide, monitor, instruct, and evaluate your clinical professional counseling practice while promoting development of your knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide clinical professional counseling services in an ethical and competent manner. (Clinical Supervisor in Maryland #2897)

I am a graduate of George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a minor in Fine Arts and a Masters degree in Counseling.  Nationally Board Certified (NBCC) and a member of Chi SIgma Iota honor society becoming a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in 2001.  My background includes extensive experience and training in cognitive behavioral (CBT), experiential, humanistic, psychodynamic, and existential theories. This knowledge will support your exploration and healing.

Respect, open communication, down to earth style, and professionalism are an integral part of my practice. I am invested in your success, we work as a team to move you to a healthier, happier, better functioning place.  There is no stigma in seeking professional help.  Consider your call a healthy step toward identifying and solving issues. Our work together will shape your path to a more comfortable, happy and productive life.
